Celebrating the decade of the bone and joint aSpring 2002 This issue of The Child’s Doctor has several articles that will be of interest to the readership. In recognition of the Bone and Joint Decade, we have two excellent articles on scoliosis and other current topics in pediatric orthopaedics, problems that pediatricians and other primary care providers encounter regularly. The Bone and Joint Decade is a global, multidisciplinary initiative targeting the care of people with musculoskeletal conditions—bone and joint disorders. Its focus is on improving quality of life as well as advancing the understanding and treatment of those conditions through research, prevention and education. Additionally, in this issue there is an interesting and important article related to the management of chronic pediatric pain. This challenging problem, together with practical recommendations for managing patients in this circumstance, is reviewed here in some depth. This spring issue of The Child’s Doctor will serve as my swan song as co-editor after serving in this enjoyable capacity for over a decade. Recently, I have assumed two other editorial positions, editor-in-chief of Pediatric Annals and co-editor of the Concise Reviews of Pediatric Infectious Diseases. Together with my many other responsibilities, they keep me hopping. I hope to continue to contribute a stamp column to future issues of The Child’s Doctor. Some of you may have noted that my monthly column in Pediatric Annals also highlights items from my medical stamp collection. |
