Referral and admitting procedures

Patients are admitted to Children’s Memorial Hospital by physicians on staff, through the Emergency Room, or through outpatient services. Physicians who wish to transfer or refer a child for admission may call the appropriate Children’s Memorial specialist, the Transport Team, or the Emergency Department. All of these services can be reached by calling the main number at 773-880-4000.

Newly streamlined procedures for admitting children with acute asthma are now available for physicians with admitting privileges at Children’s Memorial. Contact the attending allergy physicians for information about screening and clearance of these admissions.

To admit a child to one of the surgical services, please contact the appropriate attending surgeon or the chief resident in pediatric surgery at any time. A call to the hospital’s main number (773-880-4000) is the fastest means of contact.

Outpatient referrals may be made either through the appropriate specialty office or through the Physicians Resource Network (PRN) at 1-800-540-4131. (Please note: this number is for physicians’ use only. Parents and other care providers should call 1-800-KIDS DOC.)
